Tour Under Way: MLS All-Stars 2 - 5 United

A convincing victory, all 5 goals provided by our up-and-coming youngsters, capped with a sublime looping shot by our exciting new-boy Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez. What a debut!

Before you could even adjust that annoying wedgie that you got walking up the stairs, Macheda netted United's first goal. Sloppy ball from one of the MLS All-Star defenders gifted Kiko a priceless chance—tips it past the desperate lunge of the last defender and slots it confidently past the first-half All-Star keeper Donovan Ricketts. Time on the clock? 0:21

An electrifying start for United just got better after 11 minutes. A follow-up corner after Brown's attempt was deflected wide saw an irresistible cross from Nani fall beautifully onto the head of the ever grateful Macheda. Now, I hope, like I'm sure the rest of you do, that this is a sign of things to come with good ol' Kiko.

The All-Stars' first meaningful attempt on goal was a free-kick from Villa old boy Juan Pablo Angel, whose shot from around 20 yards (... according to my calculations) was sweetly tipped over the bar by Edwin. Playing more like a 29-year-old than a 39-year-old.

But really, it was all United. Chances left, right and centre fell for us as we dominated proceedings to the sell-out crowd at Reliant Stadium. Neat play between Fletcher, Cleverley and Nani saw a gilt-edged chance for Fletcher, who smashed his effort off the underside of the cross-bar, only to see it rebound kindly for the All-Stars away from goal—landing to Macheda whose confidence was probably sky-high as he tried an ambitious volley, didn't go in, but at least he tried it!

But it was the event that happened upon the hour which every Manchester United fan had waited so eagerly for, as our most talked-about signing (sorry Chris Smalling) cometh upon the field for Nani—Chicharito had entered the arena, the number 14 emblazoned upon his back, making his first appearance for United. His first job was to be part of the two man wall with fellow sub Danny Welbeck—from which the All-Stars scored. Not the most fortuitous way to begin your career, I wouldn't have thought.

2-1 to United, but our lead was extended about 10 minutes later. Darron Gibson adds free-kick taking to his list of achievable attributes, curling an exquisite free-kick, David Beckham vs Greece style, to the keeper's right; nothing All-Star sub-stopper Rimando's despairing dive could do.

And it kept getting better and better for United as another young gun made it onto the score-sheet. Tom Cleverley had impressed in the previous tour matches and really came to the fore against the All-Stars, playing neat football and finishing an excellent move to score his second goal of the tour. Seriously, YouTube the highlights, it was an action packed match.

And finally, the main event, Fletcher spots Chicharito on the last defender's shoulder and tantalisingly eyes the open stretches of green which lay before his feet, he clipped the ball to perfection—matched by Chicha's decoy-turn, leaving him onside with no defenders close. A typically high-bouncing Jabulani ball and an on-rushing keeper meant that he really only could do one thing—lob the keeper. The rest is history. And hopefully it's not the only bit of history to be written by the boots of our Little Pea.
