Spurs and City have just played out a goal-less draw in this season's first match.
Disappointment? Yeah, just a little. But hey, it's the first game of the season.
Final score Spurs—nil, Man City—nil.
Other roundups:
West Brom lose 6-0... to... some London team. Last season's champions emphatically putting last season's runners-up (... in the Championship) in their place, I guess. Amer's already covered the essentials, The Drog grabbed three, Malouda was all "yo, leave me some, douche" and took two and Lampard's like "well, this is kinda like actually scoring against Germany..." Ominous form from the Blues, but take heart! It's the first match of the season, and it was against West Brom. Arsenal smashed Everton 6-1 on the first day last season and where'd they end up? Exactly.
Elsewhere, the managerless Claret and Blue of Birmingham overcome the Claret and Blue of London, Aston Villa 3-0 West Ham. Goals from Downing, Petrov and Milner.
Man of the Match, Stewart Downing, celebrates scoring and bemoans constipation simulatenously.
Another nil-nil draw was tediously observed between Bolton and Fulham at the Reebok.
Premiership newboys Blackpool absolutely hammer Wigan 4-0 at the DW Stadium. Roberto Martinez' side beat Chelsea and Arsenal there last season, but... as always, they are probably THE MOST unpredictable team in the league. The lads from Blackpool must be praying that the rest of their campaign follows suit—that or that the season ends right now after one round of matches.
The other matches which I haven't seen the highlights of:
Sunderland 2-2 Birmingham—a clash which saw two United old boys, Frazier Campbell and Ben Foster go almost literally head to head. Birmingham came back from 2 goals, a Bent penalty and a Stephen Carr own goal, to claim a point. Steve Bruce's men reduced to 10 men after Cattermole picked up two yellow cards.
Wolves 2-1 Stoke
David Jones and former Burnley striker Steven Fletcher scoring two in quick succession in the first half, enough to see Wolves to victory.
Blackburn 1-0 Everton
An early Nikola Kalinic goal was enough for Blackburn to see off Everton at Ewood, who had key players, Phil Jagielka and Mikel Arteta, back from their long-standing injuries. Didn't help them much, though.
Now. The biggest clash of the first weekend, taking place at Anfield, saw Arsenal snatch a late draw, 1-1, an own goal, after new-signing Marouane Chamakh had hit the post, rebounding off Reina and cancelling out David Ngog's early second half goal. Both teams saw red, Joe Cole getting sent off for a reckless lunge on Arsenal defender Koscielny. Koscielny later on received his marching orders after picking up two bookings.
Moving from Chelsea to Liverpool. And still it doesn't go for Joe.
So a new season begins! And out of our main title rivals this season, only Chelsea and Villa starting off with a bang. Them and Blackpool. It's a long season ahead, though. With 37 matches to go, anything can happen yet. Unless United smash Newcastle by more then 6 goals, Chelsea will finish top after the first round of matches. Not something we wanted to see so early. A trip to the DW stadium next up for Chelski, hopefully Wigan's unpredictability can dent their charge, like it did last season!
